Cullioure North Studio, Jan 26, 2010

8:10 am Awoke to the sound of hard snow blowing against the window. But so far it is only 0C. Winter carries on, it must have been nice for Matisse or Picasso to work in the south of France at this time of the year. Off to work on new pieces, exploring the materials and the concepts, mining my imagination.

3:00 pm The small piece(14" x 11") that I worked on today is a fun exploration of colour, line, form and light. Something I have been curious to explore for some months now. The other piece looks into the idea of abstract content within an architectual structure. I find them both intriquing, they also act as counter point to both the Vlog and Earth pieces. The challenge and the questions can only lead to something good.

  1. Ah, Matisse and Picasso did have the south of France. However just like their environment inlfuenced their work surely your environement, the Great White North, must and does influence your work.

I really like the lights and how they help to bring all the colours out. I'd like to see the piece in person to see how the lights affect the overall impression of the piece. Also, Given that it does have lights, I'd like to view the piece in the dark. I think you might get a different feel about the piece in the dark as oppose to regular lite conditions.

The architectual piece... is it attached in any way to the back board or is it supporting itself. I like how the piece, especially, how it has its seperate parts but also how it has its whole part. I find myself looking at the whole piece and then taking time to look at the seperate pieces. Like a building, first you stand outside take it all in and appreciate how it came together and then you you step inside and admire the individual rooms.

    Looking good in the north

very good and incitefull comments, i really enjoyed readind it. in the architectual piece the individual elements are attached to the back board when i feel they belong where they are, then i permanently attach them. looking forward to further comments or questions. bruce
